INTRODUCTION:

FILE TRANSFER UTILITY will allow you to distribute your programs on a plain formatted diskette with no operating system. With this program, the user may copy all files from your diskette onto any other formatted diskette, including a single drive copy. You are supplied with a 35 track formatted disk, with a normal directory containing BOOT/SYS, DIR/SYS, and the copy program on it. You make a copy of this plain diskette. Then you copy all the files you want to distribute onto this diskette. Any kind of files may be used, program, data, load file, etc. That is all there is to make a master. You may now duplicate, and distribute. When your customer receives the disk, he has 2 options. Load the disk into drive 1 and copy all the files off. Or he may boot the diskette into drive 0 to autoload the transfer program. At this time, a destination drive is prompted, which may be any drive including 0. Then the destination directory will be read into memory and a FREE calculated. If there are enough grans to make the copy, it will proceed with all files. If there are not enough grans, the program will revert to a prompted mode and ask which files are to be transferred. If any of the files exist on the destination disk, the user is prompted if it is to be overwritten or skipped.

At any time the program may be re-started by using the break key. If the destination disk is specified to be 0, then the user will be prompted when to swap disks. All of the data will be copied over first, then the directory will be updated all at one time. If anything causes the program to abort, the directory will be left intact as it was prior to the copy.

The program also offers a limited amount of protection to your copies. You may rename any sector on track 0 to be any other number. This will prevent the TRSDOS backup command, and the NEWDOS full disk copy command from completing. You may also add a message or serial number (with automatic incrementing) to the protected sector. All of these features make multi-copy the program for most disk duplicating needs for dealers. High reliability is the name of the game.

DOCUMENTATION:

You will find a diskette enclosed formatted for 40 track drives. Do not use this diskette, make your masters from it. Make a backup of the disk. You may now copy any files that you wish to distribute onto the disk that you just made. All the files will be transfered with their existing passwords and protection levels. Only Visible files will be transferred. That is all there is to it. This is now a master disk that you may copy and distribute. This is what the user will do when he purchases your diskette:

Boot the diskette into drive 0. A heading, followed by the diskette name and date, and all the visible files will be displayed, along with the number of grans required to make the copy. At this time, a destination drive is prompted. After selection, the destination diectory will be read into memory, and a FREE calculated. If the destination disk contains enough grans to hold all the files, the copy will proceed. Any files that exist on the destination disk that are to be copied from the source disk, will be prompted to be overwritten. The user may at this time decide to skip that particular file. If the destination disk does not contain enough space to hold all the files, all the files will be prompted if to be copied or not. This way, the user may allocate his disks as desired.

If the destination disk is specified to be drive 0, then the user will be prompted when to change disks. All of the data will be copied over first, then the directory will be updated all at one time. If anything causes the program to abort before it is finished, the directory will be left intact as it was prior to the copy.

Anyone with any suggestions or comments, please write to me at Breeze/QSD. If you would like any changes made to the program, please contact me directly for custom work. I feel that you will like the ease of use of the program, and it may save headaches later if you are currently distributing your products on a disk containing an operating system.
